What is Design Thinking?
Design thinking is a creative problem-solving approach. This human-centered process is being used in diverse settings — from Fortune 500 companies, to government agencies, to nonprofits and classrooms. The design thinking mindset is credited for inspiring and nurturing a number of revolutionary products and services.
Yuen Designs uses and promotes the five-step design thinking process developed and made famous by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University. Design thinking techniques are incorporated into all Yuen Design consulting projects.
In a 3-hour introductory workshop, you will work in a small group (4-6 people) with a facilitator. You will be led through the five-step design thinking process (Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test), and participate in focused activities to find solutions for specific design challenge. The challenge is selected ahead of time based on the composition and needs of workshop participants. The workshop ends with a discussion on how to nurture design thinking in your own context. After the workshop, you will have access to all the course materials and a support network to continue your design thinking journey!
For a more targeted experience, you may request a custom workshop where participants work on a design challenge specific to your organization. Prior to the workshop, we will meet with you to discuss your desired length, time frame and objectives. This will determine the level of pre- and post-work that we will assign to participants. After your workshop, we can also schedule follow-up meetings to discuss progress on implementing your designs.
